Former constable Ronald (aka ‘Bill’) Tarry passed away on the 29 August 2023.  Bill spent the majority of his 33 year police service in the Maltby and Dinnington areas. His funeral took place on the 26 September 2023.

Former sergeant Thomas (Tom) Howe, 88 yrs, passed away on the 6 September 2023. He served in the Rotherham district and retired working in prosecutions at Rotherham in 1986.  His funeral took place on the 2 October 2023.

Former constable David (Zippy) Cartwright, 76 years, passed away on 12 October 2023. David worked in Rotherham. His funeral took place at 2.00pm Wednesday 25 October 2023.

Former constable Bill (Willis) Ward BEM, 86 years, passed away on 23 September 2023. I am unaware where Willis served, I seem to think West Bar. Bill's funeral took place on Wednesday 18 October 2023.

Former inspector Harry Allen, 94 years, passed away on 13 September 2023. Harry served at Rotherham. His funeral took place on 2 October 2023.

Former sergeant Martin Binney, 67 years, passed away on 24 September 2023. Martin worked at West Bar, in the Charge Office and in HQ. He was not a member of NARPO. Details of his funeral will be circulated when known.

Former sergeant Mick Butterworth has passed away. Mick worked at Wath and Barnsley. Mick's funeral took place on Friday 6 October 2023.

Former sergeant Peter Lane has passed away. Peter was a former Barnsley Borough officer and served in the old B2 sub-division. Peter's funeral took place on Thursday 5 October 2023.

Former sergeant Gerry Stoker, 87 years, passed away on 18 September 2023. Gerry worked in Barnsley, and Traffic. His funeral took place on Thursday 5 October 2023.

Former sergeant Jack Englert, 95 years, passed away on 28 August 2023. Jack retired as sergeant in charge of the traffic wardens in Sheffield. Jack's funeral took place on Thursday 14 September 2023.

Former sergeant Jack Adams, 86 years, passed away on 22 August 2023. Jack worked at Doncaster. Jack's funeral took place on Wednesday 20 September 2023.

Former constable Charles (Charlie) Grimshaw, 83 years, passed away on 15 August 2023. Charlie worked in Barnsley. His funeral took place on Tuesday 5 September 2023.

Former Inspector Mick Timmins, 68 years, passed away on 14 August 2023. Mick served most of his career in Rossington and Doncaster. Mick's funeral took place on Tuesday 12 September 2023.

Former detective inspector Alf Barker passed away on 2 August 2023. Alf served at West Bar and Hammerton Road in uniform and CID. He retired from Complaints & Disciple department. For many years Alf was the chairman of the South Yorkshire Police Joint Branch Board.

Former sergeant James (Jim) Chalmers, passed away on 30 July 2023. He worked most of his career at Stainforth, Thorne, and Rossington. His funeral took place on Tuesday 29 August 2023.

Former sergeant David (Del) Dickens, 59 years, passed away yesterday (27.7.23). David served most of his career in Sheffield, including Traffic and Driving School. He became a civilian instructor there after retirement. Del's funeral took place on Tuesday 22 August 2023.

Former constable Sonia Walmsley, 46 years, passed away on15 July 2023 after a four year battle with cancer. She retired on a medical pension in 2022. Sonia worked at Mexborough and Adwick.

Former sergeant Martyn Clarke passed away on 7 July 2023. Martin worked at Hoyland, Wombwell and Barnsley. Martyn is having a "pure cremation" and as such there was no funeral.

Former constable Kevin Baines, 79 years, passed away on 6 July 2023. Kevin served at Hammerton Road before leaving the service to become a publican. He was not a member of NARPO. Kevin's funeral took place on Monday 17 July 2023.

Former sergrant Roy Rodgers, 87 years, passed away on 6 July 2023 in Chesterfield hospital. Roy worked at Hammerton Road and West Bar Police Station. He was a great supporter of NARPO and the Old Comrades Association. Roy's funeral took place  on Friday 28 July 2023.

 

Former superintendent Mick Webster passed away on 3 June 2023, following a long illness. Mick served the majority of his time in Doncaster but he also served in Barnsley, Sheffield and OSS. Mick donated his body to medical science therefore there was not a funeral.

 

Former constable Neil Hoyland, 64 years, has passed away. Neil worked in B Division and at Atlas Court. Neil's funeral took place at 11.00am Tuesday 13 June 2023.

 

Former chief inspector Roy Taylor, 76 years, passed away on 20 May 2023. Roy joined as a cadet in 1963, and worked at Attercliffe, Dinnington, Hackenthorpe, Woodseats and Traffic. He retired in 1997 as chief inspector in charge of Sheffield OSU. Roy's funeral took place on Tuesday 6 June 2023.

 

Former constable Charles (Charlie) Auty passed away on 25 March 2023.. Charlie worked in Traffic. His funeral took place on 14 April 2023.

 

Former inspector Michael (Mick) Parkes passed away on 24 April 2023. He worked in B Division and Traffic. Mick's funeral took place at 2.10pm on Tuesday 23 May 2023.

 

Former sergeant Terry Jowle, 88 years, passed away on 12 April 2023. He joined Sheffield City Police in December 1957 and was posted to Attercliffe. After a spell in Plain Clothes he was promoted to Sergeant in 1965 and moved to West Bar. Six months later he was moved back to Attercliffe and stayed there until the new sub division was formed at Hackenthorpe in 1974. He was a station sergeant there when he retired in January 1983. After retirement he lived in North Yorkshire.

 

Former constable Gail Jones (nee Allender) passed away on 4 April after a long illness. Gail served as constable 3170 at Hammerton Road Police Station from 1975 to 1979. Gail's funeral took place on Wednesday 26 April 2023.

 

Former inspector Ken Cauwood, 93 years, passed away on 23 March 2023. Ken worked at West Bar, Hackenthorpe, and stations across Sheffield. Ken's funeral took place on Thursday 25 April 2023.

 

Former constable Derek Scott Ward, 55 years, passed away on 27 February 2023. Derek worked at Woodseats and in Firearms before having to medically retire due to a brain tumour. Derek's funeral took place on Tuesday 21 March 2023.

 

Former inspector Craig Dent passed away on 13 March 2023. He joined Sheffield City Police in 1962 as a cadet. He served in CID, Drug Squad, Ecclesfield, Headquarters Ops Room and latterly West Bar from where he retired in January 2004. Craig's funeral took place on Wednesday 5 April 2023.
