2017 Senior Officers' Mess Christmas Function

Dear Colleague,

I have great pleasure in forwarding to you details of the South Yorkshire Police Senior Officers’ Mess Christmas Ball which will be held at the Sheffield Cutlers' Hall on Saturday, 16 December 2017.  

For new members who have not attended this event you will find it is a unique traditional Christmas function at probably one of the most spectacular venues within South Yorkshire.

The reception will commence at 6.30 pm with dinner at 7.30 pm. The evening will start with a reception drink of Bucks Fizz whilst you listen to the South Yorkshire Police Choir singing carols, and have a photograph taken to commemorate the evening.  

You will be called in to dinner by the Master of Ceremonies, after Grace the South Yorkshire Police Band will entertain you.After the meal a Loyal Toast is proposed followed by the President of the Mess welcoming any official guests. 

Carols and festive tunes will be sung before dancing to premier live band “The Groove”. The evening will conclude with a disco. The finish time for the event will be 1.30 am.

The menu is below and I would be obliged if you could complete your choices on the booking form.  

The ticket cost will be £75.00 for both members and guests and this year we are providing the opportunity to book and pay early. 

If you intend to host a table, please let Niagara know at the time of booking how many guests you will have on your table (min. of 8).  However, the places cannot be secured until all the places are paid for.

This year again, the Force Sports & Social Club are managing the administration of the event. Payment will be taken by debit/credit card by calling Niagara on 0114 2964945..

It is anticipated that there will again be a high demand for places and bookings will only be confirmed upon receipt of full payment for members and guests.

Ham hock, parsley & mustard terrine. Served with home-made piccalilli (GF,LF)


Cured salmon with pickled cucumber, red onion, dill and lemon mayonnaise (GF,LF,H)


Leek & Potato soup with chives and stilton. Served with onion bread (GF,LF,H) 

Main Course 

Roast turkey breast, wrapped in bacon with stuffing, goose fat fondant potato, roast root vegetables, greens, red wine jus (GF, LF)


Brisket of beef, braised in local Sheffield ale, potato gratin, roast root vegetables, greens, sage Yorkshire pudding, thyme sauce (GF, LF,H)


Pumpkin & squash croquette, with buttered leeks, truffle, pumpkin veloute and pickled wild mushroom (GF,LF,H)


Lemon tart, crème Chantilly and berries (GF)


Christmas pudding with brandy sauce (GF)


Raspberry sorbet with fresh berries, raspberry coulis and dark chocolate (GF,LF)


Black Forest Sundae, with kirsch soaked cherries and vanilla cream (GF)

Tea, Coffee & Mince Pies

If the menu states that a dish is GF: Gluten free, LF: Lactose free or H: Halal then it can be adapted to suit that particular dietary requirement
